Watermark
Safety was formed to fill a void in highway safety.
The Texas Hill Country
is known by the National Weather Service as “Flash
Flood Alley” because of it’s topography
and the proximity to the Gulf of Mexico the Hill
Country experiences “Flash Floods” many
times every year.Cypress lined, crystal clear creeks
and rivers, in a mater of minutes become raging
torrents of muddy water and debris. Roads that
a few minutes before went over the water are now
anywhere from a few inches to many feet under water.
Similar problems exist all over the country but
until now there was no system available that could
withstand a sever Texas flash flood.
The systems that are now in place were designed
by and for NOAA and the river authorities to collect
data and develop models of the drainage and river
flow rates, they do not warn motorist or advise
the authorities of the status at a given crossing.
The development of both the Mark V and Mark X flood
warning systems were specifically designed to warn
motorist at the crossing by flashing lights and
alert the proper authorities of the situation in "Real
Time" so if warranted, they can barricade
the crossing and or close the road.
The
monitoring network is the key to "Real
Time" information. Watermark Safety is investing
in it's own communications network so that even
the most remote location can be monitored.
Watermark Safety has also developed innovative
barricade systems that can be used as stand alone
or integrated into the system were needed. These
systems are designed to be permanently installed
so that they are one site when needed and don't
have to be hauled in during an emergency. |
